I’ve seen a number of posts recently about it being not done to correct or criticise bad grammar and spelling in posts. Fair point, even though the eyes of every passing linguist are bleeding.
So for all of you translators, copywriters, editors, proofreaders and people whose posts contain bad grammar and spelling – click on the link in and enjoy Weird Al Jancowic’s take on word crimes. I particularly liked the line ‘You really need a full-time proofreader… you should hire some cunning linguist to help you distinguish what is proper English’.:-)
It reminded me of the time I took part in an international (English-language) pub quiz with a group of translators and one of them came up with our team name (you know who you are, @Pieta Cyborghs) which was ‘The Cunning Linguists’. You could hear the quiz presenter breathing in deeply every time they had to say it!
