My translation jobs the last few days have been incredibly diverse, ranging from the libretto of a jazz opera in Italian to the descriptions of horses and foals for an online auction. Love it! And then the content of the new website of a communication agency in Belgium which I’m only mentioning because it provides a nice segue to a bit of shameless self-promotion. 😊 So yes, my rejuvenated website is live from today.
Without a doubt, the most difficult texts to write are the ones about yourself, what you do (and how), your competences and experience and why clients should engage you and not another, presumably equally efficient competitor. I mean, we’ve all been taught from an early age that modesty is a virtue and self-aggrandisement is unbecoming (even though it’s hell of a word!).
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. […] The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.”
Martha Graham said it so well!
